Tilos Artist Residency
As part of the PCAI x British Council Tilos Artist Residency, the POoR Collective undertook a community-driven design project on Tilos, Greece, the first certified zero-waste island. Rooted in the principles of upcycling, zero waste, and circular economy, POoR collaborated with local residents, the municipality, and primary school students to creatively explore sustainable practices through design and play.
During their residency, POoR hosted a series of open studios and workshops, encouraging participants to rethink waste materials as resources for artistic and functional reuse. Working closely with young people, the collective transformed their ideas and sketches into repurposed public space installations and playground equipment for the Livadia kids’ area.
The project culminated in a vibrant community event at the Tilos Playground, where the new creations were unveiled. By embedding sustainability within creative engagement, POoR’s residency not only celebrated Tilos’s circular ethos but also left behind lasting, community-built interventions that foster environmental awareness and joy.
