Beyond the Bridge is a major transformation project reimagining Falcon Road Bridge - from a dark, unwelcoming railway underpass for Europe’s busiest station into a vibrant, inclusive, and community-owned landmark at the heart of Clapham Junction. Developed with a multidisciplinary team the project places community engagement, sustainability, and safety at its core.
The design has been shaped through extensive community engagement, including over 1,000 survey responses, walking tours, creative workshops, and a Community Design Review Panel. This collaborative process ensured the final scheme reflected Wandsworth’s rich cultural identity and local stories while addressing key community concerns around lighting, noise, and safety. Central to the design is the concept of community ownership, expressed through co-designed enamel-clad panels and artwork celebrating neighbourhood landmarks and lived experiences.
The designs for ‘Beyond the Bridge’ were commissioned following an open competition by the London Festival of Architecture and Wandsworth Council.
